This is damaging to the whole Kickstarter concept. Yes, Some of the supporters will get a kit or a discount on a release product, but there is the independent non VC money aspect that is appealing and an important part.

So many mega-corp concepts get watered down and leave the buyer feeling let down and somewhat cheated. You know, the price starts higher than estimates and after you buy you find out that many promised features are only available at a premium.

Kickstarter was a way to allow developers to be free of outside influence, and a chance for the supporters and buyers at large to receive value.

Sounds to me that you should be happy modern science can keep someone that finds smartphones and tablets a health concern due to weight alive in this day and age, because you probably wouldn't have made it of infancy in any other time period.

I am not buying it anymore, I can either wait for Valve to do something or get a PS4 and use the Sony alternative! One must be idiot to have hardware from a company like Facebook...... I barely use the social to as a "chat" without putting my personal stuff.... It is one of the worse tech news in years!

The behaviour I'm seeing here *reeks* of cliquey highschool drama. One minute it's "Ohhh, kid X is soooo cool - I would love to hang out with her!" Then Kid X starts hanging out with kid Y - who isn't cool with the gamer crowd - and it's "I can't believe I ever liked kid X - what a loser! I'm never hanging out with him."

This is possibly the best thing that could have happened to the Oculus Rift and gives it some *small* hope of being more than a niche product for socially reclusive PC gamers and might allow it to move into the world at large if Facebook finds a niche beyond an extremely limited part of the gaming sector. That, and its possibility for funding and its power to lobby companies to support it just went up about a million times.

But of course, Facebook is not part of the in crowd, so, quick everyone, let's hate it now! And for the record, I never particularly cared for it, and I still don't. You all had better pray that Valve doesn't announce a partnership with EA or some such, or your gaming world is shot.

I wonder what john carmacks thinking when he signed up to this. A

very knowledgeable guy who created the awesome id brands now contemplating. maybe he's now on facebook messaging the entire community while applauding mark zuckerburgs facebook page; behind the scenes sending messages to all staff at 'id' emplying he forgot to sign a waiver stating: if he resigns he can be reinstated.

People should learn from this, that kickstarters now the official loop hole to making instant money I say, heres the formula: (you don't even need to bitcoin and waste money on electricity)

1 Add images, and updates.
2 Make deals with games companies that they'll get some dividends from their interview.
3 make sure the community's buying it, but all else fails we can return their money with no damage taken towards us.
4 Keep pushing the product (like angry birds) and milk the train.
5 Try releasing alpha versions, and juice up the images and sell sell sell.
6 Do not make a release date until we have two options that allow us to sell, or profit from it.
