Hello guys.I was actually wondering how decent an i5 6500 is for gaming. Is it able to max all of the games in 1080p or an i7 would be the right way to go?

Solution
If you already own it, I suggest resisting the upgrade itch to the i7.

The main difference between them is hyperthreading, which not a lot of games use ; unless you're really pushing to play the latest titles at the highest possible framerate then I don't think it's bad at all.

As for the future, you might want to get an i7 when the i5 stops making the cut.
Hello Kazuto_1,

An i5-6500 is a perfectly good gaming CPU. You'll be able to max out *almost* everything, but a few AAA titles like Battlefield 1 might need to be toned down to 'high' or 'normal' settings.

All-in-all it's a great mid-range gamer, and will be able to adequately handle any game out there right now.
