How hard to push the cpu on the socket?

I have a gigabyte ud3r motherboard and installing an i7 920. After placing the cpu very carefully on the socket I had to tighten with a lever that pushed down on a metal part holding the cpu tight. I had to push the lever down with a tiny bit of force which concerned me a bit. The manual only says push the lever down. I'm hoping I didn't bend any pins. Any input is appreciated this is my first time building a rig and I'm trying to be as careful as possible. How easy are those motherboard pins bent? Did I do something wrong?

In my experience, the lever requires a bit of force, so it sounds normal.

You are making hundreds of tiny electrical contacts, and they have to be solid, hence the force.
