for about a year and a half ago. I went feral after a bad experience with some XBONE one games. Started watching PC builds, DIY guides, active following the tech canals on youtube, reading a lot about hardware. yeah you name it.
Thenn i started my first build. it was a budget friendly build. got myself a cheap older gen duel core AMD CPU, a ok mother board and some nice DDR3 RAM for an amazing price. ordered a ok 500w Coolermaster psu and a GTX 750Ti. a HDD and a 120GB ssd. got a cheap Inwin case, a membran keyboard and a 24" 60Hz panel and started this adventure. IT was amazing. it absoluty murdered my Console specs and i had a good ish 60fps on older games. ok settings. had a blast overklocking failing, but I was learning. also registered and got steam etc.
the problem with power, is that you want more. it did not take very long until I upgraded to the z170 platform with a 6600k and a huge air cooler ( CM 612 v.2). and some nice sticks of corsair Vengeance 2666MHz ram. then came the GPU. A Asus Rog Strix GTX 1060 6GB. i started to care more and more about my system. got a sweet SAMSUNG 960 EVO M.2 and redid my whole system with a EVGA SUPERNOVA G2 650W Gold and some Noctua fans. changed my keyboard to the CORSAIR K95 Platinum and got a ROCCAT Nyth mouse aswell. at this point I played anything at ultra 60fps. got another monitor aswell at some point since i like looking at performance
A little time went by and i uppgraded to a 24" 144Hz panel. i enjoyed This high fps gaming so much, soon, I started playing a lot with the settings. Hunting that 144 fps Lock.
after i did a full beautiful 25k build for a friend, I felt i needed to fix my own systems. Hell I was at a point of doing Ghetto mods. like destroying half my HD cage and fixing it with duct tape just to fit that 1060 strix.
The next thing were my visuals. I stripped the system and went all inn. A full White/black themed build with the NZXT H440, several140mm RGB fans, a HUE, AIO WATER cooler ( KRAKEN x62) SOme nice CORSAIR vengeance RGB ram sticks ( i dont enjoy this rainbow stuff at all. static color all the way, by the way). also a new samsung 850 500gb ssd. WHERE DOES IT END?
A few days ago i sold my 1060. lost only 60USD on selling it, not to bad. i placed a 750ti in my system as a placeholder. while waiting on a good price for a 1080 / 1080ti. less then 24 hours later i came home with a ASUS ROG STRIX 1080. just placed it in my system a few hours ago. Now i am done!
well about an hour later i ordered a new mouse, corsair GLAIVE platinum. jokes on me.
anyway. this does not seem to end. I have considered several times to jump to 1440P gaming before, but i would not do that on a bad panel. And spending a good two grand on a panel and a 1080ti this late in the 10th gen is just wasting money.
but now. i am gaming at 1080p 144Hz with a 1080. should be enough to see what happens with the hardware in the future. maby i go 1440p with a 2080TI or someting next year. I also might fo Sli with another 1080 if i can grab a cheap one close to next gen or something. it all depends.
so yeah. that is my story. felt I wanted to write something since i finally have finished my dream system from back when i started this.
only thing missing now are some nice white sleeved cables I guess.
but as for my current system. got any tips for me? what do you think of my pc experience, did you do something similar?
