I'm about to buy the parts for a new computer, so I was wondering what you guys thought.
CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core $179.99
Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ $124.79
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 $84.99
Storage: Seagate SV35.5 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM $69.99
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 280X 3GB $389.99
Case: Rosewill THOR V2 ATX Full Tower $122.71
Power Supply: Corsair 760W ATX12V / EPS12V $149.99
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer $15.98
Total: $1173.43

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am not an expert at this. Final thing, my original budget was $1000, so if anyone does have any suggestions, try and keep it under $1200. Thanks!

Hi, you have nice build there, only thing i would change is the HDD. Seagate's SV units are made for video surveillance and for enterprise use. Better get the 1TB Baracuda or Western Digital Caviar Blue.
And also get aftermarket CPU cooler, something like Cooler Master Hyper 212Evo , if you will be doing some overclocking.
Btw here is something for $1100 you might consider, including SSD

^ is correct on the HDD, also if you have the $70-80 to spend grab a Samsung EVO 120GB SSD for your OS. Seeing how you are going with the R9 280x my guess is you will be playing games. You can get a WD 1TB black on sale for around $80 if you look good enough which is decent for gaming storage. If not grab and the blue series, i personally have not been a fan of seagate since most of the seagate drives have died on me within 18months of purchase. Maybe that is just my bad luck.

I am just curious, what is the difference between the video card you recommended and the one I found, yours is like 70 dollars cheaper. Anyways thanks!

The difference will be in the clock speeds, the Asus one is clocked at 1070Mhz, while the XFX is 850Mhz. Still, the difference between both cards will be 3-4 fps in different games. You can still overclock the XFX to reach the Asus clock speeds.
Btw, the Gigabyte's version is clocked almost at the speed of the Asus, and it has better cooling, plus it is $40 cheaper than the Asus one.
