How long will my first custom build pc will last? (first post)

Hey guys I'm new in this forum and I would like on your guy's opinion on my first build desktop here are the specs:

Approximate Purchase Date: This Month (July)

Budget Range: $2000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, 3D App (AutoCAD), multimedia

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: amazon, newegg

Country: USA

Parts Preferences: I would like to use Intel CPU

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe in the future

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: As future proof as it can be. (first build)


CPU: i7 3770
MOBO: Asus P8Z77-v
PSU: Corsair TX850M
RAM: Kingston Hyperx 8gb
GPU: EVGA GTX 680 SC
HDD/SSD: 1tb WD, 500gb WB, 120gb Kingston HyperX

I would want it to be as future proof as i can. Thanks guy :)

As stated drop down to the 670, more than enough power to last you even at 1080P.

850w is overkill. The 670 only needs a 650w to SLI. A 650w would give you more than enough headroom. For that matter a 750w would as well if you're worried.

Save money go with the Asrock Extreme4 Z77. You're not overclocking with that 3770 you might as well save there. Plus the difference in performance isn't even there for motherboards which is why most shouldn't justify a $150+ price.

Drop down to the i5 3570K, for gaming and other apps like PS5 or CS5 you won't need the i7 honestly. For that matter you didn't fill out the sticky so we can't exactly help you that much can we... Could you...

It looks really good. I don't see why it couldn't last, with out upgrades, for 3-5 years...of course you probably will notice lack of performance by then...so you will probably have to notch down the settings a bit.

That will be a relative matter, and is affected by your expectations, if you´re planning to game at ultra with full filters and very high resolutions then yes it will last 3-5 years maybe less but if you will try to get every drop of perfomance to last, it can be more than that.

There are people on this forum buying hardware more that 3-4 years old to make a build and hoping to last the same time and you got the high end of the rope there.

That is top of the range, no problem there. You will happily go for three years

Personally, drop the GTX 680, and go 670, with sli when you need the performance!

You do not mention monitor, if res is 1920x1080 then 1 670 is ample now
