Does anyone know about how long till the new g80 nvidia chips? And if you were to have the chance to chose between two 7800 gts in sli or waiting for the new chip which would it be mind you I have to upgrade by late Q2. Thanks.

Do u mean there nice new 90Nm core? NV80 seems to bring up reslts on the 4400Ti, which i have a feeling isnt what u mean!

I dont think nVidia has released much about it yet, i would have thought they would wait until the announcment of the x1900 and work from there!

Ive not read anything about the new core apart from, its coming.

Thing is 2 7800GT's are still going to have more than enough power run anything smooth and looking fine. I would have thought the new core will replace the 512 as the king of the nVidia range. Then slowly filter it down.

This is however a guess.

Could be worth waiting a bit and see what happens, worse case is that things get cheaper so you could get GTX's instead!

I think I'll pass on the 7 series or at least wait until the 8's are released so that 7800 prices come down.

I still have no problem with one 6800gt. What do you think the next line of graphics cards will bring to the table?

He said G80 not NV80, the G80 = the old NV50 + NV60 info really.

The G80 won't be out until the end of the year or more likely 2007, and it will likely follow very closely ATi's R600 in a slow transition to unified shader architecture.

No matter what it's not worth waiting. Buy now, sell again and thenbuy when it launches.

Ow yer! Well pointed out!

Just so used to the NV names for cores!

Well no my 6800GT is serving me well!

I would say that if ur not desperate to buy now whats the point? Prices will fall soon enough and u can get a better card cheaper!

If your pretty much desperate to upgrade then Apes suggestion is the way!
