AMD 5950x Not a gaming CPU. I am not a gamer.

I have a 5900X on my main rig, so 12 cores, 24 threads. But it's not 12 cores for the gaming -- which is a major part of the PC's use -- but because I do most of my work on this PC (I work from home generally).
Sure, but I was wondering if there was any games that could use more than 8 cores. I get that those CPUs aren't necessarily intended for gaming, but eventually games will use that many cores.

There are a few RTS titles that like CPU cores, a few simulation titles like City Skylines. Most games are still limited by single core performance. Just the nature of the way games have to be designed. Something has to direct parallelization and when that core is taxed, you hit the FPS limits.

12 on my 5900x, I got another system beside me I use for my media server with a r5 5500 6core.

I do have a Phenom II x3 B75 its a triple core, I did have a board that could unlock that last core, and was able to get to 4ghz on them all, but I don't use that system anymore and sold the board lol.
I was going to say the 3 core processors from AMD were actually just quad- cores with one core disabled that didn't make the cut during testing.

ok. Are there any games that could even use 16 cores? I'm sure the CPU demanding games I play could, if the GPU wasn't the limiting factor, but I'm not sure what games could possibly use 16 cores.
A lot of games are finally being designed more similarly to how Supreme Commander was where they separated out as many systems as they could to spread across cores (thanks consoles finally having solid CPUs). This still ends up being single thread limited generally though as much of what's spread out will never push a CPU core/thread to its limit and not everything can be broken up.

Intel CPU names are about to get a lot more confusing with Core and Core Ultra. The current naming scheme made sense, the new one does not.
EX: https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...-24m-cache-up-to-4-80-ghz/specifications.html
I wonder what the pricing is going to be like, because looking at the stats (https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...-ultra/core-ultra-series-1-product-brief.html), there is nothing in it between the four H series CPUs.
200-500Mhz difference is not exactly significant, on paper. The 125H stands out in having 7 cores instead of 8. For whatever that's worth.

Very impressive power consumption btw.

Only if you are a gamer. Many other uses for a PC besides gaming. Maybe gaming hauls in the bulk of cash. If you don't care for Apple products... I use my PC for photog, music, video and ancient games that I have liked for years. Gaming is a good way to waste 1/2 of your life. If it paid the user money, that's a different story. It isn't going to happen. Then there's beta testers.

Oi, don't even start with that...crypto games are creeping in, at least they are trying to.

When my kids were born.. That was the time of my life. Real life! Imagine that!!!!
Life's a waste of time
Time's a waste of life
Get wasted all the time
You'll have the time of your life
Different people have different definitions of "waste".
I don’t mean to tell anyone what to do, but can we please get back to the topic at hand? (CPUs)

I know people that think every waking hour should be a billable hour.
Anything else is a waste.

And not just "billable", but actually billed and invoiced.
