Question How much better is the Samsung 990 pro than the 980 pro?

Im planning on getting another 2tb of space for my Desktop and currently have 1tb Samsung 980 pro (without heatsink). I was planning on getting the same 980 pro but I saw there was a newer 990 pro. Is it worth getting the 990 instead of 980?

The 980 Pro and 990 Pro are both PCIe 4.0.

There is a difference, each generation gets a bit better.
But... not so much that you would notice without a synthetic benchmark.

An aspect of this to realize is that when you have a really fast OS drive, but then have lesser (other) storage drives/games and such as that. The slowest speed drive in the chain will be your limitation. Downloading from the internet is many levels less capability, so if you are buying one to throw in your system on top of older, lesser spec drives you are basically buying into the hype, and wasting your money.

Now, if you are upgrading all the drives in the system for moving or working with files then you would realize that capability, locally.

I defy anyone to tell the difference in a blind test.
