I'm asking because a local computer repair store owner told me there wasn't much of a difference. So I bought a 2k Dell 32" LED display and the visual fidelity is much better coming from a 1080p laptop.

I was wondering though how much of a difference would a 4k display be? Assuming it would be another 32" or somewhere close to that.

1920x1080 24" Pixels Per Inch 91.79 <- Maximum recommended size for 1080p
1920x1080 27" Pixels Per Inch 81.59
1920x1080 32" Pixels Per Inch 68.84
2560x1440 27" Pixels Per Inch 108.79
2560x1440 32" Pixels Per Inch 91.79 <- Generally 32" class are actually 31.5" so it is a little better
3840x2160 32" Pixels Per Inch 137.68 -- About 40% sharper, but more than twice the performance required. ~3.92 million pixels vs 8 million pixels.
3840x2160 37" Pixels Per Inch 119.20

Hmm that's interesting. So around 40% more sharpness for the x2 performance requirement seems to be a bad value.
