How often do you buy video games in a year?

Late last year I bought Indiana Jones which despite having no optimizations for AMD runs great on my 7900xtx. I did buy helldivers 2 which runs decent but they could optimize it I’m sure. I also bought assassins creed mirage on sale but I haven’t played that yet.

I've got a 7900xtx too and "The Last of Us" looks awesome

Oh, Assassins creed mirage is a great game, the fighting style they used in that iteration is a lot different than the other AC games, but once you get the hang of it, mission, quests, and exploration, investigations are top notch, I really would go and play that If I where you having just bought said game.

I'm having a hard time getting used to the combat in Mirage, but same was true of Valhalla, and I eventually got the hang of it.

True, I never got used to the combat in Valhalla, had to resort to a trainer just to finish that game.
But don't worry, I'm sure you'll get it. Like I said great game. (and it might not look like it at first but getting a hang on the combat is required to complete the later parts of the game such as is the stealth play)

One mission that was really tricky for me in Mirage, but I did not get there stuck for too long played out in some sort of prison...I think the game actually had some updates since last I played, they might have fixed those issues in that mission, but it seemed really easy to get stuck there if you're not playing super careful, can't recall but you'll know it when you get there. (count yourself lucky if you make it)

I haven't bought new games yet in 2025, actually had some spare change after I rebuilt my pc and did a GPU upgrade, but since I wanted to redownload everything I already own first after having totally formatted my entire pc after having bitlocked or something the whole thing, I thought I'd rather be safe and start from scratch, thus I paid some of my spare change for faster connection to redownload as much as I could, and while I couldn't play because it was too hot most days I figured why not spend some of that spare change on my favorite casino games, anyway I'm sure some great games will appeal that are going to be released soon.

PSU, check, GPU, check, CPU, check, free HDD space check, heck I recon new games can come and be released, my PC seems ready to play!

Edit: then if it turns out that my pc is full of installed stuff, nothing a uninstall can't fix to make some space again for new titles.

Its only February so its not hard not to have bought anything yet. I had to look but the last game I bought was in August.

Only one game I know I want this year and its still showing as coming soon, Guess it makes it cheaper.
Do you recall what the last game was that you purchased?

One game you want, what would that be?

I know I'm very much looking forward to a new gta or rdr release...
I'd also love to see a new splinter cell, hitman or mass effect, NFS, AC? (or wait a sec I know, a new Cyberpunk), yes that's got to be it right?

If think carefully now, I recon I remember what my last games were that I bought, well as a matter of speaking, it was DLC, the shattered space dlc for Starfield and secrets of the spires dlc for Avatar: frontiers of pandora, then that; I haven't even played that yet... gets me thinking.

Anyway I just reached 95% in Carmageddon: Max Damage, then I accidently clicked create new save, ( why in heavens name is the create save game list being presented each launch of the game) and I wanted to delete the new save, and low and behold the action caused the 95% save to be deleted instead of the 0% save, whoa damn, anyway so I Guese my quest for 100%ing Carmageddon: Max Damage was halted right there, that gets me back to being free to play whatever I would.

Easy for me to tell what last game is, I just look on Steam. But if you buy them from all over the place it would be difficult. I have an Xbox Game pass but I haven't even played any of the games, yet alone thought about buying one.

I generally only play indie games these days.

Carmageddon: Sounds like you needed a backup of your save games.

Finally made a purchase this year, in the form of F1®24 from steam sale, so far it's been awesome to play.

Looking forward to making some more purchases, couple of games out now on the pc seem interesting enough, and I have made some free space again by deleting games I don't play anymore.

Another thought that comes to mind, Where is that new GTA pc game, sure hope to see that becoming playable on my pc soon. (I'm not bothering with previews or teasers videos, neither am I reading anything up on that) Bet that It'll be some game worth playing besides.

Once in a year now, but I used to buy them more often in the past. I'm planning to upgrade my gaming PC, so I'm saving money for PC parts this year. Meanwhile I'm replaying the games I have already bought in the past.

Early console days, constantly. The joy of going to EBGames and pick up a few games for the small amount of money I earned around the neighborhood for extra spending went a long way.

Today, barely any. My rig(s) are more than capable but games that I was interested in either end up being terribly rated or are the same gameplay loop with nothing to offer.

So I'd say 1-3 per years at most these days. If there's a one and done game I want to play (such as Indiana Jones) I get gamepass for a month.

Such as the Indiana Jones, I actually had the chance to buy that one, then I blew my opportunity, now I'm starting to wonder if that game even wants me to come and buy it at some point and make a playthrough of it once owned, but for an unknown game and such witch it actually would be to me, might want to pick it up on a special since at the time of writing this it has been some time since it launched and could have been worthy of full asking price.

Am I the only one who thinks Steams sales are no longer that amazing?
I do have some of the ones that are the highest discounts, others are not interesting at all and the ones of interest are at a low discount.

I remember, perhaps misremember, sales being more exciting.

It's actually very rare I'd dabble with anything new honestly. I've kinda shifted from getting mainly RTS strategy like Planetary Annihilation/HoI4 to more sandbox types like Space Engineers/Total War/Kenshi/Empyrion. I find that the more "buildy" than "fighty" they are the less stale they get for me lol.

I can only justify paying for xbox gamepass by making use of it for stuff like Clair Obscur/Stalker/Atomfall though, which i guess is paying for them.

TLDR not inluding subscriptions, maybe 2/year for like £20 each

Like a lot of folks in here, I haven't bought a game in a long while. I mostly pick up the free ones from the Epic game store and I am working through my back catalogue on Steam. There's a lot more games that I'll start and get a few hours of gameplay in. Then after a few weeks break (because adulting!) I lose interest in playing them again and switch to a other title.

I can often go a few months without playing anything on PC, instead sticking to my R36S for retro gaming.
