So ive got this old laptop that I want to make more usable and its got a hard drive running windows 7that I want to swap for an SSD running windows 10. How do i do this?

Im kind of confused by a lot of this but when I plug in the empty new SSD and try and turn the laptop on what would happen? wouldn't it not work because it has no os?You put the SSD in and do an install of the OS.
You (usually) can't transfer a drive with an OS already on it. Especially into a laptop. Especially an 'old laptop'.
Clean install.
