Straight to the point. Born in 86' and I grew up on cartridge games, which evolved to CD games and now everything is almost digital. My question is, how does an older person who enjoys playing PC games avoid third party programs like STEAM, UPLAY, and all those other programs? Just installing a game and playing has become such a difficult task! I pray I don't ever get locked out of my STEAM account or there goes hundreds worth of dollars down the drain. I love playing on the PC, but sometimes I feel like it isn't even worth the money!

Did you post on toms Hardware without logging in? There are worse DRMs than Steam. And old CDs/DVDs had SecuROM that only allowed you to install the game on 3 computers. Steam application is also worth it. You get achievements tracking, friends list, community hub, etc
I have Steam, and all the games I own on their I can not play because I can't log into Steam. I have reset my password so many times, and I keep going full circle with STEAM. The details really don't matter, the question is how do you play games you bought from a store without having to go through STEAM or some other third party program, like UPLAY? I come from an age of gamers that you'd just pop the CD in, click Install, wait....then play game after! Is that possible anymore? Like currently I want to play Fallout 4, but I can't because it keeps bringing up the STEAM launcher, which I can not log into cause of the password issues. How do you install these games (legally) without the use of STEAM?

Even if he buys physical copies, he'll need steam, origin or uplay for most games. In PC-Gaming there is no way around it, sorry dude.
The only thing he can do, is buying a ps4 or XBox One.

Yea see there is always around it, just not legally...lol! But as Juvion stated, even with a physical copy of the disk you can't even install the game most times without the use of one of those programs. Some games allow you to bypass that and install directly from the disc if your tech savvy enough, but to play it you need to logon for authentication. Is all that DRM protection worth buying the games anymore? $60+ for a lot of the games these days, and I want access to play MY game whenever the hell I feel. Sorry I know this isn't the forum to be talking about this, but I thought id try this one too! Alas the answer is always the same.

I really don't see why having Origin and Steam is such a huge obstacle for you to overcome. Worst case, you can call their customer support to get your password reset. Otherwise all you typically need to reset a password is either your Username and/or Email that you registered with.

You're only a year older than I am, and as the generation who practically brought upon this huge popularity of gaming. Simple things like remembering/recovering passwords should be a breeze.

Console Gaming is much easier, so you could always go that route. Majority of games that are on PC, are typically one XBox and/or Playstation.

The details was what I was trying to stay away from! It's more complex than that, but even so, why can't I just purchase a game and install it from the disk then play it. It's not really STEAM or the other third party programs fault, that we consumers have password issues, regardless of the reason. Still though the fact that my game play is controlled by a program that I HAVE TO HAVE in order to install and play the game, is very frustrating. Especially when you pay $60 for what is now just a souvenir. Not everybody wants to go through four or five hoops just to play a game. The short end, I haven't played in awhile and somehow the password I created for my account is not the right one, even though I wrote it down and placed that inside my passwords folder, stored with all my other passwords. (So I know it is correct). All I'm saying is how do we take away the exclusivity of programs like STEAM? You can't even play Skyrim and other game unless you absolutely have STEAM, says it right on the games cover. So know little johnny just bought the game and gets home to find out he has to install steam, create a steam account, log into said account, then try to install the game through the steam launcher which regardless of ISP will take you quite some time. Say he is successful, now every time he wants to play he has to be logged into his steam account, which requires an internet connection. That might seem simple to you, but seriously why the hell does anyone have to go through all that, the games still get pirated!
