How to block a wireless internet connection

Hi I'm new to the forum and recently, I'm suspecting that my brother is somehow disabling my adapter's connection to the router (due to me downloading while he is gaming). Everytime I download something, I pay close attention to how fast I'm downloading, usually when it hits about 500kb/s, my adapter will lose its connection to the internet. But, that is when he is home. When he ISN'T home, I'll be downloading things close to 1 MB/s. Also, I've borrowed my dad's and my sister's laptop during one of the times when the internet connection wouldn't work and would find out that my brother is somehow, mysteriously still connected to the internet. Please help me find out how the prick is doing it. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

EDIT: We are both connected to the internet using wireless adapters. The only computer that is connected through the Ethernet is my Dad's DESKTOP, not laptop.

Set password for the connection,and dont say it to your brother!

We already have a WEP key.

Get your dad to setup a password on the router to stop him getting in and disbaling your connection.

While he's at it, setup QOS so that gaming, web browsing and email get priority traffic.

First off, get rid of WEP. Any computer savvy person can steal your internet. Breaking WEP is child's play.

Second, your router probably has a QoS setting that is probably set to prioritize gaming traffic over other traffic. Change this to Internet > gaming.

On more advanced routers or routers with custom firmware (Tomato/OpenWRT) you can actually set traffic limit by port, IP,etc.

Also, unless you know the admin password for the router you won't be able to change it. My guess is your brother is smart enough and probably have changed the password from the default password. You can usually log in to the router by typing 192.168.1.1 to your web browser.

I agree with you. Although I don't really understand much about networking, since I save my settings on the modem so that my PC can be set to automatic. Hassle free, yet ignorant way of setting the internet... 😗

Good luck. My guess is he's had enough of you not respecting his *real* use of the internet, and has assigned you proper priority. Probably a good idea to approach him knowing anything you get is probably more than you deserve - unless he games ALL night lol.
