Hi, I'm a student at a university residence and I recently bought an Xbox but soon came to realize I cannot connect to the Xbox network to go online. I asked my residence and this is what they had to say:
Please take note that our WiFi Services will not work on certain gaming consoles. This also applies to to Google Home Mini, hence why those devices are unable to obtain DNS or, connect to one another on the same wireless network.
There have been certain security protocols/measures that have been implemented in our WiFi Services over in student residence to avoid wireless attacks on our networks.
Students/Residents who use these devices have lodged complaints previously and have been also informed on this. If you have any inquries or issues with your WiFi on Laptop/Handphone, you may get in touch with us.
Is there a way I can work around this? Some people suggested a travel router and some people suggested VPNs (but this is harder to do on a console). Please do note that I am not trying to do anything unethical, I just want to play on my Xbox, thats it.

Enable wifi hotspot on your phone and use it to connect from xbox.
That is, if you have data plan available on your mobile.
Thanks for your reply. That's fine for just playing online but since mine is a digital edition, I must download those huge games and my data plan is crazy expensive in my country for so little data. I would prefer a more "permanent" solution.

We can't help you "work around" security protocols implemented by your school. It is against the rules of this board to help bypass any security.
