I am using an old mini desktop as a personal computer. Mostly used to write personal emails, letters, documents, banking, research etc. But, also for personal documents etc.
It seems to me that getting a laptop vs a (mini) desktop makes more sense. Just in case for mobility, and also $ wise
Since I use this device mostly at a workstation with good monitor and KVM I don't think the laptop woudl need a great screen or touch.
What laptop to get? Would a DELL Inspiron be a reasonable choice?
For general digital consumption I use an ipad.

Since a good display and performance aren't the main factors for you, if you want the maximum possible value, I would suggest looking at Chuwi. I have been using one of their laptops for 9 months and I am generally happy with it, delivery was on time and customer support was quick to respond.

Good day to look at laptops! I like to be below $600.

Just came across a HP 845 with AMD-7 for $589. Never used a AMD CPU

P.S. never heard of Chuwi
The HP is solid. I would not recommend Chuwi, but rather a better supported brand like HP, Dell, etc.

You will see no appreciable difference, from a user perspective, between an AMD and Intel CPU. Battery life can vary, but it really depends on the specific models you are considering.
