To make sure Universal Apps work on every device, they tend to load in windowed mode which can scale to the size of the screen they are on. If you’re working on a desktop with a large display, this doesn’t always show them off at their best. Fortunately, you can set things up to display apps in full screen in Windows 10. Here’s how.
Universal Apps have come a long way since those unwieldy Metro attempts and we can now move, maximize and minimize them as we see fit. Sometimes though, only full screen will do.
Display apps in full screen in Windows 10
Unfortunately, the only way to have them load full screen automatically is to enable tablet mode. Not ideal for a desktop user.
To enable tablet mode:
1. Hit Windows key and P and ensure ‘PC screen only’ is selected.
2. Navigate to Settings, System, Tablet mode.
3. Switch Tablet mode to on and set the option under ‘When I sign in’ to ‘Automatically switch to tablet mode’.
4. Log out and in again to enable.
Then:
5. Open a Universal App now you’re in tablet mode.
6. Click the three dots in the top left corner of the window.
7. Select Full Screen.
Your app should now display in full screen with no title bar or border. Windows will not remember this setting so you will have to set full screen every time you use the app. Alternatively, just use normal desktop mode and maximize or use a third party app to simulate full screen.
