I recently built a new computer and created a installation media with windows 10 but I didn’t activate it because I’ve been waiting on my ssd to come in so I can download my OS on that instead of my HDD. Now I’m wondering how I would download windows 11 on my new SSD on a computer running windows 10 inactivated. I already have the key for windows 11 I just want to make sure I get it on my SSD and boot from that instead of my HDD.

Win 11 install is pretty much like Win 10.

Win 11 install obtainable from here - https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11

Physically disconnect all drives except the desired SSD.

Then, just like this Win 10 install...
What's your primary reason for not activating Win 10?

Your choices are likely:

Update to 11 on your existing HDD and then transfer that to the SSD by cloning or imaging.

Or

Do a clean install of 11 directly onto the SSD using newly created installation media via Microsoft's "Media Creation Tool".

Either would work.

Windows is either tied to your Microsoft account if you bought a retail key or the motherboard it gets activated on if you bought an OEM key. Considering the OS seems to be destined to live in the same computer as the SSD, there really isn't a problem if you activate it now and reinstall it later.

Thank you I appreciate it!
