Hi,

I have my desktop connected via HDMI to my Samsung ue40j5510 TV and want to listen throughmy Jabra Elite 75t earbuds. I can't seem to accomplish this..

At first I thought I had to change some settings on my desktop but given the fact its connected via HDMI and I can plug in wired headphones in my TV without problems this leads me to conclude the solution should be found solely on a setting on the TV.

In the manual it states I should only go the Sound menu/Bluetooth Audio and then the headphones should appear as an option. This is not the case. When I go to this menu it states it is paired to a Wireless Music Adapter (I assume this just means the built-in adapter on the TV is functioning). It also reads 'select the Samsung Bluetooth Audio devices you want to use and when necessary pair the headphones' but that is as far as I get.

I'm (again) assuming the TV has built in bluetooth and if I read the manual correctly it can connect to both Samsung and non-Samsung headphones.

What can I do? Do I need to buy an extra Bluetooth adapter or is there a way to disable the sound output via HDMI from the desktop and can I route the audio through my desktop to my earbuds? In the latter case I would have to buy a bluetooth dongle as my desktop doesnt have bluetooth. I do have a dongle to connect an XBox controller (third party) but this only seems to work for the controller and no other devices.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

For any content you are feeding to the TV from the desktop, such as videos, games, movies, etc., you will want the headphones paired to the bluetooth adapter in your PC, not your TV.

The audio is not being generated by the TV, it's being generated by the PC.

Now, for content that is generated by the TV, such as cable TV, Amazon prime video through a FireTV or Firestick, other streaming boxes, built in Smart TV streams/apps like Netflix, DVD/BD player, THAT you would want to pair the headphones directly with the TV or the streaming device (Firestick, Roku, etc.) for.

If your PC does not have integrated Bluetooth then yes, you will probably want to buy a USB or PCIe Bluetooth adapter.

Thank you. That makes sense. I was thrown off by the fact that when I plug in wired earphones I need to do this in the TV rather than in my PC. I will order a bluetooth dongle. Many thanks!

You are welcome. Anytime. And actually, if you are feeding the content from the desktop to the TV you should ALSO be able to directly plug your headphones into the PC, either the front panel audio or rear panel audio, and get the same audio feed that you have going to the TV. The only difference is that in the taskbar you'll need to select your headphone output instead of the HDMI audio output that you have going to the TV. You should NOT need to plug into the TV if the PC is feeding the audio to the TV anyhow, so long as you select the correct audio output in Sounds or by clicking on the audio icon in the taskbar tray.

I just installed my usb bluetooth adapter without a problem. In Windosws I added the Jabra Elite 75t which shows up under sound options but I still can't route the sound to it. Under the sound icon in the system tray I only see my TV and two digital audio (S/PDIF) options. For some reason windows can't detect my earbuds -even though they're visible under 'bluetooth and other devices'.

I do need to take a closer look but if something obvious pops to mind I'm open for suggestions 🙄😉.

Just because they are visible under bluetooth and other devices doesn't mean they are enabled necessarily. You might have to go into the advanced sounds settings and set them as the default audio output device. If you are not able to do that, then I'd venture a guess that maybe something is wrong with them since you can't get them to receive audio from either the TV or the PC.

I tried another pair of bluetooth headphones first and they connected immediately without a problem so at least I knew all was good with the bluetooth on the PC. I looked in the manual for the Jabras and found I had to manually put then in pairing mode first. All sorted. Thanks for the help!
