That would allow you to duplicate the signal to the projector. The extended display would be driven from a second graphics port on the PC.

Or you could just select the projector and set it to duplicate the main display without needing to buy any additional device.

I'm not sure where the confusion is really, if you want a screen to extend the desktop, select it and set it to extended desktop. If you want a screen to be a duplicate of another one, then select it and set it to duplicate.
