My internet connection has some protection. For each device I use to run internet on, I have to log in to the network from the browser after connecting to Wifi.

I cannot access the Internet without logging into my network from the browser. In the status bar of my Windows 8 laptop, it shows a yellow triangle on the signal bars saying 'Limited.' I'm not able to log in to my internet from the browser. How do I fix this issue?

Solution

I have tried the wired connection, as a matter of course it is OK. It is NOT a router firmware problem also. My second PC with Windows 7 can connect correctly to the router. It is Win 8 problem! I have tried to restart the connection several times and sometimes the connection has been established. I think it is a good idea to turn off the protection and try unprotected WiFi...

I had this exact problem when traveling with a hotels WiFi and nothing above worked and I found this:https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.virusresearch.org/no-internet-access-in-windows-8-limited-connectivity/&ved=0ahUKEwipspSA7qrMAhUFNhoKHSKmAu0QFggwMAU&usg=AFQjCNFPBj8A3c2WKYrIDKYrQRQNaxRE8g&sig2=R_vQvvJjg3BJ2t06yPCJIw

control panel/network and sharing center/ CLICK YOUR CONNECTED WIFI CONNECTION/wireless properties/security/CHANGE YOUR ENCRYPTION TYPE TO "TKIP"

PRESS OK. .. AND YOUR PROBLEM IS SOLVED.

I found this helpful-i tried everything earlier but could not get any solution .....finally this video helped me change my limited access wifi to connected:

it sounds very similar to problems I was having? would be idle overnight and I'd power my device up and be online. do whatever and then close out. when I would come back and power my device up and get on, it'd state that I'm not connected. that yellow triangle stating limited. I literally have to disconnect close out get back on and then connect again. weird thing is there is no rhyme or reason to it? sometimes, I have no problems thru the day. I figured it was some setting on my end pertaining to the power distribution of the device?

I got it resolved by following these steps.. (got lucky, i have to say after trying all the steps above it didn't worked for me).

Now it is working for me.
1 Open Network and Sharing Center ( right bottom of your screen, where u see the wifi is having limited connection with yellow warning sign)

2. Click on the Wi-Fi (YourWifiName) (Seen below
Access Type: Internet)
3. Click Wireless Properties
4. Security (Tab)
5. Change the encryption type (I changed it to TKIP from AES)
6 Ok.

It started to work immediately, no need to restart... Strange thing what I noticed is that once it connects.. i tried changing it back to AES... This time there was no issues it was working fine. (Strange.. but it worked)

I have disabled (Internet Protocol Version 6)

Also made sure in power management, i unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Hope this helps

Hi.
I have had this problem with every device I have ever had..., even now -with a Lenovo 16 RAM Laptop, even when there are 3 or 4 bars of Wifi showing, at certain places and certain times, it says 'Limited'.
However, although this is a Windows 8 laptop, I do NOT have the 'CONNECTED WIFI CONNECTION/wireless properties/security/CHANGE YOUR ENCRYPTION TYPE TO "TKIP"' at all.
I have searched in the computer for it, in the 'search' bar.
Do you have any other ways; it needs to be solved!... I note it is 4 years ago when you put this up.
Thanks,
Julian
