How to format a floppy disk with content on it

Hello, I'm trying to recover copy from a floppy disk but the disk apparently was not formatted and Word cannot open it. Is there some way I can format the disk without losing the text?

copy the floppy contents to somewhere on your hard drive, eg, My documents. Then format the floppy.

Question: If it is word text, and word can't open it, what good is it ? But if you have other good documents on the floppy then copy as I mentioned.

You meant that the drive asked you to format it before you can use it? If so, here the solution.
