How to get age of empires 2 to work on xp

I just bought age of empires 2 and it installed fine but when i go to play it all i get is a loading screen then when it goes away nothing else happens. can i get some help please?

Look up the game specs and compare them to your system specs, in particular, your graphics card, as it may not support some of the games requirements.
