I got an old laptop from a friend and I want to upgrade its ram. The problem is this is my first time upgrading a laptop I usually work on desktops and just slap the case every now and then to ground myself. The laptop is plastic so how would I ground myself with it?
You don't need to really worry about it as long as the battery is out and there is no power going in. If you really want to ground yourself though, just put a metal plate on the floor and make sure you're touching it with your bare foot.
Touch something metal nearby. Especially something that's connected to a wall socket (such that it is grounded too). For example, I have a lamp with a metal base. I can also ground myself by touching the metal screw on a nearby lightswitch faceplate.
