I am computer enthusiast and I have pretty much optimized my PC by every mean. I have turned off tiles from start menu and using start menu. Now the problem is, i recently bought forza horizon 4 ultimate edition from windows store and have downloaded it, since its ultimate edition it has downloaded tons of add on (55- 65 add on) with it, and all the add on are appearing on my start menu making it full of useless icons, because obviously add on are meant to be used within the game and there's no point of them residing there. How can i remove them? because they are really making my start menu ugly and hard to find other apps because i don' keep icons on desktop and launch every app from start menu.

this was a problem for me ever since i downloaded forza ( two months ago) and it updated several times.... but when it updated yesterday..... you know what happened....... idk how and why because i tried every possible fix but this is it....... windows will always remain a mystery... btw thank you everyone for their help! <3

Hello

Can you please tell what all have you tried to remove these from the Start menu thus far?

Although I'm sure you're already aware of this solution and have already tested it, just in case:

  • Right-click an unwanted icon in the Start menu.
  • Go to More.
  • Click Remove from this list.

You can also try going to Start > Settings > Personalization > Start, and then turning off the Show app list in Start menu and Show recently added apps buttons from the right window.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!!

That won't work, the remove from list option only shows for new items in app listing, not for anything under the # or in alphabetical

You can also try going to Start > Settings > Personalization > Start, and then turning off the Show app list in Start menu and Show recently added apps buttons from the right window.

that won't work either as all they can see is app list now.

Maybe - I don't know for sure - but maybe if you use File Explorer and then navigating to the folder where Windows 10 stores your program shortcuts: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs you could create a folder that you could put all the pictures in you don't want showing individually.

The only downside to that might be the game won't work right. BUt you can always go back to same folder and put the links where they were to begin with.

I have everything I could possibly do and already did everything you people have mentioned above. None of these works. Actually this is the directory where all the user-installed programs' start menu shortcuts reside:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

but since the game is downloaded from Microsoft store, there's nothing related to game in that directory also when I left click the game icon from all apps there is no option of open file location

PS.
before even posting this thread i have already deleted all the folders from this directory:

%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

the actual game file is in windows apps folder although i am not sure how much you can see there. Folder name is Microsoft.SunriseBaseGame_1 and you may not have access as its likely controlled by trustedinstaller.

I don't know how it can create a shortcut that appears in the menu without being in that folder.

There are symbolic links but those usually show in the target directory as redirects.https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/fileio/symbolic-links
