Right now I only have a WD 1tb hdd with about half of it used. I want to get a ssd to make window load faster and maybe a few games. If I were to get a ssd how would I be able to get my OS from hdd to ssd. Would I have to format my hdd and reinstall OS on ssd and everything else on hdd?

Also if I install the OS on ssd would the drivers for gpu, mobo, etc have to go on the ssd as well?

Solution
The way I'd do it is.

Install the SSD on your system, but disconnect your HDD (from the motherboard at least, so the windows install will not see the hdd), install the windows as usual. Once you are done, reconnect your HDD and making sure your boot drive is the SSD via BIOS settings. And you are pretty much done.

Since the HDD is not needed during install, disconnecting it will ensure you run into no accidents with formatting the wrong drive.

2 options:
Cloning [strike]and[/strike] or a clean install on the new SSD.

Cloning - this requires that the total used space on the current drive be significantly smaller than the new SSD.
So, unless you're looking at a 500GB SSD or larger, this probably won't work easily.

Clean install - This always works. Basically, you're starting from scratch, on a much faster drive.
Yes, all the drivers get reinstalled too.

1. What OS is this?
2. What size is the SSD you're considering?
3. Do you have another drive with a bunch of free space on it?

1. Windows 10
2. I am considering the Samsung 850 Evo 250 gb
3. No

Guess I would have to clean install it.
