How to install Win-XP SP2 on a single SATA drive?

I have constructed a new machine, with an Asus motherboard that
has 'SATA' bios support. I have just a single SATA-drive present
(thus RAID is not relevant).

My problem is that during Windows-XP installation, it wants me to
supply a device driver for SATA for use by Win-XP.

So, like others who have posted SATA queries, I went to the
Asus website and did a knowledge-base search there. FAQ there says:

Ques: Why can't I find any SATA HDD during installing WinXP SP2 when I
connected single SATA HDD to SI3114R RAID controller?
Ans:
Due to firmware limitation, SI3114R can't support single SATA HDD
unless setting SATA at JBOD (single) mode in the Silicon Image RAID
configuration Utility. Besides, please prepare a disk with SI3114R driver
and press F6 to load the driver during WinXP SP2 installation.

Ok. So, that seems to tell me to:

(1) Run something called the 'Silicon Image RAID configuration utility".
But it does NOT tell me

where to acquire that.

(2) It also says I need to acquire/download (from somewhere!?) a copy of the
SI3114R driver.

But, that driver does NOT seem to be available at Asus's website. Am I
supposed to read their minds

and find a 'Silicon Image' website and get the driver and/or utility there?
Or, get it from Microsoft?

Anybody been down this specific road who can tell me (and the other posters)
exactly where to

get the needed pieces?

TIA and regards...

Dave

Actually, if you aren't going to use RAID. Then you do not even need a
floppy. I have the K8N-E Deluxe, and WindowsXP installed to my WD SATA
drive.

There are 6 SATA connectors on that board, 4 of them are at the bottom and
are intended for RAID. 2 are close to the middle of the board. Plug the
drive into one of those 2 and you can install WindowsXP without needing to
load any SATA drivers. So in otherwords, you DO NOT NEED to press F6.

I also have a SATA HD and SATA controller on my motherboard. I've never had
to install a driver for the controller from floppy (or from anywhere, for
that matter).

You probably have an Intel SATA port, which has the drivers in XP.

This is probably true, since my Asus motherboard has an Intel chipset.

Depends if the motherboard allows it or not.

After reading the 3 replies, clearly I must have thrown out some
confusing info, because you now assume that I have an Asus K8xxx
Deluxe or whatever. But, I do NOT. (I should have stated which motherboard
I DO have.)

So, I'll start a fresh note, and state less and mention which MOBO I am
using.

Bye.
