I really, really, did not like it when Microsoft Announced their plans for Windows 10. I am a pretty adept Windows 7 user compared to most people, and I've been satisfied with it for years, I've never gotten viruses or malware and it runs smooth as butter etc. etc. I dread the day when I might need to upgrade to W10. I understand that operating systems have a life cycle. The reasons I hate the idea of 10 vs 7 is because I hate the metro interface, and I hate targeted advertising. We already paid for the stupid operating system so why do we have to deal with this nonsense with ads. I also hate that you basically have no control over updates in 10 except for delaying them.

I use windows 7 for everything, my professional use and for gaming and media etc. Why can't Microsoft just continue improving W7 instead of making everyone go through the ordeal of learning a new operating system.

Solution

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've seen and use vista with and without sp or any patches by microsoft, sadly that os programming is still unstable.
If I were forced to go back from windows 10 and use either vista or 7 permanently I would choose windows 7.
Between 98se, XP, 7, Linux Suse it never gave me that much grief.
W 10 is a highly improved W7. You can eliminate the metro stuff. You can block all the ads. W 10 works like a highly effective W7 with many improvements. This is 2016 not 2009.
I switched all three of my machines to 10 and would never consider going back to 7.
Updates are done for good reasons. Have you even tried 10? The ole fear of change thing.
Learning the new is sooooo tough, right?
If you don't like what MS does use another OS.
Hate is destructive.
W.P.

Honestly if your going to keep up with technology and trouble shoot it like I do now, its best to go ahead and get it.
Compared to absolutely free till 2016 july then after that you get to spend 120+ dollars depending on which windows 10 version you need.

I like 10 and at most it acts like 7, however microsoft updating it often and screwing up stuff I can see why you don't want to move on.
The best way is to treat W10 like windows 7, configure it to be like 7, get it stable enough to be like 7.
Make a system image, copy it to another hard drive for backups you won't be using.

You can stay with windows 7 if you want and thats perfectly fine.
If you do that make sure you read up on how to secure it and fix your own problems that may pop up.
I suggest you look into this forum and read over the threads it'll help alot if you plan on keeping 7 forever.

I use Windows 7 professional SP1 (64bit) I use it for light video editing and audio editing, I also build small storage servers and gaming PCs, I have made training videos for local businesses and other videos for local college professors. Switching to W10 just seems like a big hassle. I already have W7SP1 optimized to my needs. Not only would I need to deal with new updates, but the BIOS is going to be different. As I mentioned before my career was built with Windows 7 and I have never had problems with it. There's going to be a bunch of little things that add up and make it more annoying. I'm also not a fan Microsoft Edge browser but now I'm just nit picking.

I really see no reason to upgrade to Windows 10, Microsoft should have just kept working with it. W7 is their best operating system.

Have a close look at what I underlined, businesses will eventually move on to 10.
It would be in your favor if you knew how windows 10 works how to trouble shoot it.
Yes we understand your os is perfectly fine the way you want it, this is why I mentioned to make a system image,
If you don't like what windows 10 is cracked to be after 2 weeks, go ahead and get the uhaul truck and move back.

Think of it this way, the businesses you deal with daily.
You will want to hear by word of mouth that "steven" is capable of keeping up with current technology and "steven" can trouble shoot newer os problems without much hassle.

If you're using the Home Edition of Win 10 I'd say it's not an improvement, as they push out mandatory updates and there's no controlling those. If you get a version that won't force those updates on you it's pretty much the older brother to Windows 7.

I've made sure on my home computer with Windows 10 I have Rollback Rx, Drive Cloner, AVG, and Malwarebytes and I'll say that compared to past OS' I haven't had to restore the machine as often as I've had to say with Windows 8. I mean, Windows 10 has issues but for me it's not the harbinger of doom that Win 8 was.

I haven't seen anything wrong with 10 since I started using it 10/1/2014. However I'm keeping 7 Pro on my 3 year old main desktop because by 2020 I fully expect to have moved on to a newer PC with Windows 10 pre-installed. I've already replaced my 5 year old laptop with a new one with 10 pre-installed. I really don't see anything wrong with 7 or 10, but don't see any rush to go to 10 either. YMMV.

Because all good things must come to an end, especially when it comes to Microsoft. It sucks but that's just the way it is. Enjoy Windows 7 while you still have it.

Well apart from DX12, theres no reason to change yet. There are many still using Vista !
Win7 works just as well as win 10 if not better.

There is just a handful of new features that about it + a ton of spyware and meta collection.
If someone wants to give you something for free you know there is a catch somewhere.

Dual Boot if you need windows 10 but you cant trust it, most government agencies have banned its use too.

Also there are many if not most people swearing against the use of vista or vista sp2 in homes and businesses.
If I see people using vista and they can afford a windows 7 product key, that is what I recommend at best to keep them stable.
I admit its gonna take windows 10 and its current programmers to get its act right to get people to accept the new os.

Vista is actually good
If you update it, then strip out all the nonsense and unused services, and disable the updates and associated services,
Vista runs great nowdays.
When it was first released it was a problem , and the reputation stuck.

Had far more problems with windows 8 compared to vista

But yes Windows 7 slightly better, uses RAM a little more efficiently and its well supported.

Microsft doesn't plan to remove support from Windows 7 until 2020 so we have some time yet.
