How to kill a motherboard?

A noisy fan = a broken or used machine? 8O . How do you KNOW it was a used machine? Did your friend do ANY homework before buying the machine? Where were you when your computer illiterate friend was taken in? Check the warrantee IF you can get away with this you will probably get a similar machine NOT a refund, so your friend is probably out of luck. Take it as a life lesson, do some homework and remember if a deal is too good to be true it probably isn’t.

Speaking about sticky, someone should creat a thread about "How to kill Hardware without leaving trace", and then make it a sticky 😛
There are some funny ideias how to do it already in this thread.

Just for info: If you buy (goods sold as new) in the uk you have a statutary 12 month warranty which entitles you to a refund (note you have no right to an exchange and the law allows for the depreciation in value of the goods you've used). Also make sure to buy goods over £100 with a credit card (in uk) as the card company will be jointly liable should your goods be dodgy and you may get a refund from the card company if the shop wont play ball. Also, never buy from pixmainia, they're utter s***

Ok things are different here on this side of the pond; however I do not think he will be able to pull it off without leaving evidence of tampering. I would also think that the general warranty you mentioned may have some very specific requirements like clear manufacturer defects or such, and different types of merchandize may have different exclusions (I don't pretend to know if this is true but laws are never so clear cut). I mean if he blows several elements on the MB that would clearly be tampering, power surges and the like leave a clear signature (I know this for a fact, part of my job 8) ) so would uk law allow a refund (minus the 4 months or so of use) then? Most of the methods suggested DO leave more than a trace (I’m not saying the store techs would be able to tell BUT an experienced professional could .In most jurisdictions noisy and / or slow would not necessarily be defective. I would think if it could be shown that the case of a electronics item were opened would the person still be able to just get a refund even though they have voided the manufacturers warranty? I mean a pure interpretation of that law would be a free test drive for everything. Would the returned items be allowed to be sold as new if it was used for a week, or would they have to be sold as used? If that was the case it would sure stink to be a small business man in the UK, a fairly small amount of returns could drive you out of business .

Thats probably your main problem, Try a better card.

He also have an ATI X1600PRO, windows still buggy

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer of the PC instead of the retail outlet?

nothing is written on the case or the motherboard.. can't find the manufacturer

List the specs for us, which I think others have suggested.

I will as soon as I will little more time

was it your trained computer skills that figured this out?

He asked me to check his computer coz he found that some things werent normal, and when I came i confirmed that it wasnt working properly, and when I asked him for the invoice, the system specs wasnt corresponding with the date of purchase, I mean it was way outdated, the DDR2 was there, bigger hard drives, he payed it 1000$CND + 300$CND extended warranties

Cheap PCs are just that, cheap

It wasnt supposed to be cheap, the salesman told him it was design to run the latest game, there was a Nvidia 6200 inside, someone told him to buy a faster video card..

have you cleaned of all the junk?

please read all the post, the tech support did a fresh install

P.S. Never buy an extended warranty, ever.

not from Futushop anymore thats for sure, but I know some other warranties that works

A noisy fan = a broken or used machine? Shocked . How do you KNOW it was a used machine?

Read all the post please, Its not only the chipset fan

Take it as a life lesson

Yes, lets tell the whole world to do some research on everything before they buy! what a mess..

Just for info: If you buy (goods sold as new) in the uk

sorry north america here

Yeah, statutory warranty only applies to manufacturing defect - if, "a product is not fit for the purpose for which it is intended," so a slow/noisy computer probably wouldn't qualify (unless it was sold as a fast quiet one :) ) but a broken pc would (unless it was due to the users negligence/stupidity).

The manufacturers warranty is separate from and in addition to (not a replacement for) the statutory warranty. However opening up the machine and breaking the warranty seals would make it very hard to argue that you haven't f***ed the machine up yourself.

No, you can't sell a returned item as new (although I seem to remember some high street shops got caught out for doing that a few years ago), but you can still sell it.

Over here purchases of products & services made over the internet/mail order also have a seven day cooling off period so if you change your mind about something you've bought mail-order/online you can return it UNUSED and UNOPENED for a refund (obviously no postage refund).

Also defective goods don't have to be returned in their original packaging and the person who sold the goods NOT the manufacturer is the person who must repair/replace them, if a company tells you otherwise, they are full of brown smelly stuff 😀

Actually I DID read the whole thread, the two major complaints are the noise from the system and "windows buggy" which I'll assume is a system hang up. While I have some sympathy for your friend anyone who drops 1000 on a computer and does not do any homework on either the system specs he is interested in or the reputation of the store he is depending on to provide the information he is unwilling to look up deserves most of the blame. He should have at least talked with you first. Forgive me but some one who starts a thread requesting information on how to commit fraud AND ignores several requests for more system information from knowledgeable people, who may be able to help, is a little suspect. How do you know the system was a demo, you said your friend did not know. He used it for 4 months, are you telling us it was frequently hanging for 4 months and he didn’t realize ANYTHING was wrong until he talked to you. Cheap no name systems have cheap power supplies which are noisy. Most cheap mother boards do not even have chip set fans, so either the board is NOT unnamed (maybe you do not know where to look) or are you talking about the cooling fan on the processor? You mentioned he "rushed for the price" and "system specs wasn’t corresponding with the date of purchase" sounds like he had some idea of what systems go for and I guess you mean the ad mentioned ddr2 and a larger hard drive, are you telling us it took him nearly 4 months to realize he got a smaller drive!? 8O They replaced the drive and the memory which you state were defective, Given the limited descriptions of the problems you observed I doubt they were defective, maybe the store was covering their asses but it seems they were trying to resolve the issues. My personal thoughts would be if there were a chipset fan and it was noisy maybe it is not cooling the chipset properly but again YOU already mentioned you tried static and it just shut down the system, who knows what else you tried. As I mentioned in America and I think Canada your warranty will just get you the same spec system IF they do not catch on to you which would leave your friend with a broken MB and NO recourse because of YOUR suggestions. Even though I do not post much I have been reading these forums since THG started, there are A LOT of really bright people on here (young and old). You could get good constructive advice on how to fix the system but threads like this are just crap and I for one am saddened to see more and more how do I break this or hack that without getting caught threads :x . A word of advice: IF A PERSON WANTS TO DO A CRIMINAL ACTIVITY AND HAS TO ASK HOW TO DO IT THEY SHOULD PROBABLY THINK TWICE ABOUT DOING IT.

HYST3R if you are going to insult someone's English then at least do it with proper grammar.
