You need change the read/write permission in the setting. Check the link for info. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/File-sharing-essentials
OK, I figured out that I was trying to share a drive and it wouldn't let me - I had to share each folder separately (pain in the butt) to get it to work. Thanks for the posted link though.

I've seen that page, but I don't get the same drop down that allows Homegroup (read/write)/workgroup sharing.
Should I be in a homegroup/workgroup or what ?
When I try to change my advanced sharing settings, the only Location that shows up is the local computer, so I'm unable to add user\computer type sharing. If I could get Location to see the other computer, I could probably get the share settings right for read/write.
My Windows 7 Pro desktop shows workgroup=WORKGROUP homegroup=joined
My Windows 8 Basic laptop shows workgroup=WORKGROUP homegroup=joined
Still at a loss with this complicated/not straight-forward sharing on Windows.
