So I have build my first computer and it's great but my graphics card is only outputting about 95% of the desktop to my also newer plasma.

Now this problem happens frequently with a laptop and I'm used to it. The fix there? Just close the laptop and it goes full.

Now that I have a desktop for the first time nothing works. I have tried fussing with all the settings and resolutions but I know the clue is in whatever a laptop does when it closes. I guess it switches to only 1 display?

Dude. I just built a computer from scratch with zero knowledge whatsoever on the subject... do you honestly think I am going to register here and ask a question and it ends up being a button on the remote?

Not to be rude. But I am not my grandfather. Plus I told you, I have tried all the settings including those in the monitor configuration menu. [edit] I have been on these forums longer than you even. Just noticed that.

This is also a Windows related problem and specifically I am using hdmi atm. My tv is in full mode so I see the entire signal. There are black borders on the edges. I want the whole desktop.

I have to cover all my bases. If you have multiple it certs and built pcs for 20 years, I'd still do it. This happens a lot and most of the time it is the tv scaling setting so I mentioned that first.

So if your laptop might switch to one display as you think, did you try that? Just to make sure, all nvidia/ati control panel scaling settings and all tv scaling settings?

i hook up my computer to my tv quite often actually i have a 46 inch sony that i use as far as the resolution is concerned .. couple things to try. make sure that the tv it self is set to 1080p or 720p for the resolution .. i have ATI so i use 2 6870s in crossfire not that it makes any difference but i also connect with the hdmi cable .. when you hook the computer to the tv make sure that the resolution is the same as your tv ... some times for instance it will default to a lower resolution if the tv its self is not at the ideal resolution .. and you will end up with the edges cut off like your saying. in the amd control panel its under my digital flat panel / HDTV select 1080 p or 1080i .. @ what ever hertz your tv supports most older ones are 59/ 60 hertz ..

True. But this is a Panasonic Plasma. It works fine on my laptop. Exactly what I want (except for a bit of a glitch when you run HDMI2 aspect which is 100% and it sometimes starts flashing green until you cycle through ratios.. I hoped the new computer would not do this).

Like I said. You close the lid on the laptop and BAMN! 3D movies. 1080p. No problems. I don't know how to "close the lid" on a desktop.

I tried disabling the main monitor and different monitor layouts.. same thing.
