Question How to merge SSD 8Tb drive that is really 4 2Tb drives!

I purchased (on line) a SSD drive reputed to be 8Tb in size. Upon inspection, I found it was really four 2Tb drives somehow encased in the same enclosure. This is a problem for me. Is there a way to merge/link the four drives? I am on a MacPro, by the way.

Yeah, that model comes up with no claimed 8 TB drive, just a 2 TB drive. Let's get that link. It's hard to guess about a product that we cannot see.

Use either RAID0 or JBOD. Keep in mind if any one of the drives fail, the whole thing dies.

Tried to create a JOBD array with the Mac Disk Utility to no avail. After four tries, it still fails to group the disks.

Out of curiosity have you taken the thing apart to see how it's constructed? You might be able to hack together something if you salvage the drives.

On my Windows/10 it comes up as 4 drives of 1.95 TB each with format exFAT. I'm tempted to (a) combine two of them and (b) format them NTFS to see if it works. Any comments?

If you bought a similar device, there are not "4 drives of 1.95 TB each".

The one I got appears to be different. I'm doing a surface check. I've also sent a query to the company. Will post what they say. Otherwise, it becomes a dispute. I've saved the documentation.

Slightly different, maybe.

But there is no valid 8TB external SSD for $70. Does not exist.
Not even an 8TB HDD for that $70..

Follow up ... speed is really slow ... 12 MB/second. Going to try it on a different USB 3.0 connection.

Alas, perhaps others will learn from this: "One does not feasibly get 8 TB of flash storage, or any other storage, for sub-$100 in 2021!"
