How do I "over clock" my Toshiba Satellite C55Dt-A5306 Laptop, I read that that can help it run things faster
BUT
if you would strongly advise against doing this let me know!!!!!

And what really is "over-clocking"

Solution
Ok, first of i'll start by explaining what overclocking is. It's basically that you push your CPU, GPU or RAM to higher clock speeds then intended by the manufacturer to squize out a little extra performance. This does however come with a risk of damaging your the component you're overclocking.

The way to overclock is basically that you increase the multiplier that with the base clock controlls the clock speed. You'll also need to increase the voltage that runs through your component as it'll need the extra voltage to maintain a stable clock. Unfortunetaly increasing the voltage will also increase the temperature and since you are on a laptop with limited cooling this could result in high temperatures that could damage the system...

Also you might not even be able to overclock since not all CPU's are "unlocked".

If you're still interested in overclocking i can link some tutorials that explain the basics.

Solution
I will start by highly recommending you do not overclock the laptop. Most laptops are build for specific heat output, by increasing the heat produced (a result of overclocking) you produce more heat than the laptop is designed to dissipate.
If you might want to attempt it, first check how much thermal headroom you have - you can do that by running a stressing program such as IBT (Intel Burn Test) or Prime95 while monitoring your temperature with a program such as HWMonitor or CoreTemp. If your CPU gets within 10°C of it's TJMax (temperature varies by CPU) you will simply run into thermal throttling if you attempt to overclock (likely causing diminished performance instead of improving performance).

As far as what is overclocking, overclocking is making a CPU (or graphics card, or ram) run beyond it's design specs. It's pretty much that simple but... as I pointed out, there are limitations and pitfalls. See what your temps are while stressing, if you have some thermal headroom available (I really doubt you will), let us know... we'll work with you to try to eek out a little more performance
Good Luck

Overclocking is just when you change the time on the computer set to a few minutes ahead what it really is. This way it makes things faster since when you look at the time you see less time available so you go faster. 😛

Thank you for you answer, I've done some digging and I don't think i will overclock, thank you for your information though
