How to reduce RAM usage on Window 7

I'm using 1GB RAM, and my physical memory always goes up to 90%!! Sometime my computer freeze.. Its so anoying... I dont know what to do.. i've already defragment my hard disk, and still the same... Help me

Windows 7 uses 1 GB of RAM to run just the OS... Definitely need to add more RAM to fix the issue.

Recommend 2-4 GB minimum for running Windows 7.

I'd suggest min of 4GB, the basic entry level these days is about 6 and rapidly approaching 8GB, take a look at new store sold systems in the ads from Best buy, Office Depot, etc

2GB will work better. Do you have an SD slot ? If so install a fast SD card and activate readyboost. 3gb is fine for win7 32bit as it can support the full 4gb. 64bit windows can support much more ram but I would no install anything less than 4gb with 8gb being optimal and more a waste to most home users.

What system do you have? We need to make sure you get memory that will work.

An option to an SD card is just a thumb/flash drive if on Vista or Win7/8, feature not supported by XP if that's what you are running or an older OS

The only thing I can think of is to disable SuperFetch. SuperFetch basically preloads some programs that Windows 7 thinks you might use so that they can launch faster. To disable it do the following steps:

1. Click Start (Windows Icon) Button, then click Control Panel.
2. In the new window click "System and Security".
3. Click "Administrative Tools" and another window will pop open.
4. Click the shortcut to "Services".
5. You will see a list of services that Win 7 runs. Scroll down until you see "SuperFetch".
6. Right click on "SuperFetch" and choose "Properties".
7. Click the "Stop" button to end that service now.
8. In the "Startup Type" drop down list choose "Disable" and then click "Apply".

You are now done and you may now close all the windows you have opened.

How much RAM does this save? I dunno know.

Having a solid color background for the desktop instead of some picture can also help reduce a little bit of RAM usage. Not much but with only 1GB of RAM I suppose every little bit helps... especially when Win 7 does need about 1GB for the operating system itself.

Lastly, use some type of light weight browser that uses less RAM. It may not be as feature rich as Internet Explorer, Chrome or FireFox, but they do use less RAM. Here's a short list:

RAM is not expensive, but that depends on where you live.

Since you only have 1GB of RAM, I am going to assume that you have a netbook and that 1GB stick of RAM is embedded into the motherboard which means you cannot replace it. It should have an available memory slot for you to add memory. You need to read the manual to find out what kind of RAM it takes. I recommend a 4GB stick of RAM if it is supported. In the US that generally costs between $30 - $40.

If that 1GB of RAM can be replaced, then I recommend 2 sticks of 2GB RAM for a total of 4GB which can be bought for roughly $30 - $40 in the US.

Generally speaking, it is better to have 2 sticks of RAM so that the RAM can work in dual channel. All you need to know is that dual channel provides a small increase in performance vs. single channel (1 stick of RAM). It probably provides a 10% - 15% increase in overall performance.

From what I know dual channel typically works best if both RAM sticks are the same model and same capacity.
