With my old Nvidia card I could enable AO through Nvidia Control Panel for most games, but I can not find this setting anywhere for the AMD card I just purchased.

To my knowledge AMD GPU have no such function. It is spmething that nvidia has been offering for well over a decade ago. Back then majority of games did not have any kind of AO implementation. Nvidia offering AO through their control panel though it cannot be applied directly to the game unlike FXAA. nvidia still need to code their driver to support their AO. This is nvidia own effort without any help from game developer at all (same thing with nvidia 3D Vision where they are the one make it work in games without the help of game developer to make it properly work, hence some games simply not compatible with 3D vision function). Back then having the capability to force AO on games is one competitive advantage of having nvidia cards.

Right now it matter less since pretty much all games have somekind of their AO implementation. But the function still a nice addition to have for older games like Skyrim which does not have any AO effect.

@ renz496, i was thinking this as well but i still had hope that it could be done somehow. i too am going through some older titles that benefited immensely with nvidias AO options. thank you for the response.
