How to turn Turbo buttons on a game remote into actual gaming buttons (like START or SELECT)

Hi, I've recently bought a controller and it has three buttons in the middle: Turbo, Clear and Mode. After looking up what Turbo buttons do, I have no use for them. Is it possible to use them as input instead, as I'd really like to have a Start and Select for emulators. Thanks!
