How Do I Turn Wi-Fi On In Windows 8?

To make a laptop or any Tablet PCs secure and protected from unauthorized access from the external network, i.e. Internet, the devices have a toggle switch button that turns on or off wireless network adapter at the hardware level.

Apart from the above, Windows 8 also allows users to turn on or off the Wi-Fi feature. When Wi-Fi feature is turned on or off at the operating system level, the requirement of doing so at the hardware level is completely eliminated. This increases the life of the hardware of the computer, hence allowing users to exploit the device for longer duration.

Note: Wireless option on PC settings window is only displayed if a wireless network adapter is either integrated in the systems (e.g. laptops, Tablet PCs, etc.) or it is additionally installed on them (e.g. desktop computers). Also note that if a wireless network adapter supports only 802.11b/g/n network, it can only be connected to the Wi-Fi network using 802.11b/g/n band (2.4 GHz). On the other hand, if the wireless network adapter supports dual-band (i.e. 2.4GHz and 5GHz), it can be connected to any of the available Wi-Fi networks (802.11a/b/g/n) without any issue.
