how to update my motherboard bios without a risk to brick my board ?

I have the z170x gaming 5
and I want to update the bios to lates version

which is safe to update the bios from the bios screen

or from the windows (gigabyte utility ) which I can load the file and update

any risk to brick my board ??

Updating the BIOS is always a risk of bricking it.
You do it exactly how the motherboard manufacturer says to, no exceptions. And you only do it if really needed.

Like stated above always a risk , only update if needed or having a known issue.

Q Flash is usually used by Gigabyte , I believe.

Check on the board page or Manual.

yes I checked my motherboard is GIGABYTE UEFI DualBIOS™ Technology

^ its automatic - if there's a bios error it will try the other bios automatically, & copy it over to the main bios on a successful boot.

Its damn near impossible to mess an update up.

^ yes but not on the dual bios boards unless there's an actual hardware error with the bios chip itself.

The second bios is 100% read-only- it can never be changed,updated or written to.

Edit - you can force update the backup bios too but it would be an entirely stupid thing to do IMO.

No mate - doesn't matter - the newly flashed bios will be default settings though.

If you have custom settings in your bios save it as a profile (your board should allow this)
The profile will still be there after a bios update & you can re-enable it .

I would. Anything you can do to lessen the (small) possibility of failure.

I would go USB 2.0 instead of 3.0. Again, lessen the possibility of fail.

1-fast update
2-normal update
which one should I use ?

Fast just flashes.
Normal backs up your current BIOS first before flashing the updated one.

You may as well use normal.
