How to upgrade my computer, and is it needed??

Hello, I have had my computer for about 7 months and it just always seems to open up programs pretty slowly and programs freeze frequently. My friend has a computer with almost the same specs and it runs extremely fast and i have no idea why mine is like it is. I was wondering what i could do to or buy to upgrade it to make it faster or if i should sell it and rebuild my own computer.

My specs: Dell XPS 7100
AMD Phenom II x4 945 processor 3.00 GHz
6 GB ram
64 bit operating system

If anyone needs more specs to help just let me know, idk what i really need to give for info. Thanks!

Being a dell you need to look at all the programs that came with it installed and uninstall the ones you do not use. Scanning for virus is important as well.

i have multiple different virus software like mcafee, malware, and an anti virus software i run every other day so i dont really think thats the issue but possibly? and its been like this since i bought it so idk what to do

1 virus program would be enough. OEM computers come with all kinds of third party crapware that takes up system resources that is my guess here. unless there is something wrong with your computer and/or it is stuck on a low performance setting.
