How to use a SSD for a boot drive and a HDD as storage?

I've been using a HDD for a while, and just recently got a SSD. I unplugged the HDD, installed windows onto the SSD, and plugged the HDD back in. It booted through the SSD and went into the fresh windows install on the SSD. How would I go make it boot into windows on the SSD, but then go into everything installed on the HDD?

Since you already have the OS on the SSD...

You'll need to reinstall your applications anyway. (Steam games may be the exception to this)
Your new OS on the SSD knows nothing about those applications.

You're best off by wiping the windows 10 copy on the SSD, and then booting through the HDD again, then using Macrium Reflect to clone the HDD over onto the SSD. Then finally format the HDD.

Isn't it a better idea to just copy the HDD contents to the SSD?It makes the most sense to me

Depends on how large the SSD is, and how much space is consumed on the HDD.
If he has a 250GB SSD, and 400GB consumed on the HDD...that won't work.
