Multitools are great if you either don't have the hacking skill to crack a terminal, or the layout of the hacking mini game is just proving too difficult even with those skills. Sure, you could probably use some of the hacking software to power through it if you have the skill and it's just tough, but you can save those and just pop a multitool to crack the combination automatically and for sure. Here's how you use these.
Step 1)Acquire a multitool.
In order to use a multitool, you'll have to have one in your inventory. If you don't have one, but find yourself in need of one, you can craft one using 120 spare parts. It's always a good idea to lug around spare parts, you'll never know when you'll be using them for something.
Step 2)Equip the multitool.
Go into your inventory and select the multitool to equip it, or you can assign this to a hotkey. You'll end up using these often enough for them to warrant a hotkey button.
Step 3)Point and click at the terminal
Now that the multitool is in your hand, look directly at the terminal or keypad you want to hack, and press and hold the primary fire button, left click by default. It takes a second or two, but the terminal will be hacked momentarily without having to go through the hacking mini game at all.
These little guys can be a great alternative to leveling up your hacking augments, so stock up on spare parts if you plan on going this route and craft a few up to keep in your inventory at all times if you don't plan on being much of a hacker yourself.
