How to wipe harddrive after cloning to SSD

Hey. I'm trying to figure this out.
I have ordered a new SSD, and I want my old HDD to be used as storage after cloning.
I want to wipe it clean, and I'm not sure how to do this.

This is how I figured I'll do the whole thing:
1. Backup HDD to external harddrive.
2. Delete files off the HDD to make it fit on the SSD
3. Clone HDD to SSD
4. Take out the HDD, and put the SSD in its place in the computer.
5. Connect HDD in the computer and wipe it (somehow).
6. Move files from the external harddrive to the now wiped HDD.

How do I wipe the harddrive?

Just format it. Or, if using something like Win's image making app, just use the disk image created to replace what is on the HDD. It will automatically overwrite everything on the HDD.

As you have all your important files backed up, just format the drive.


Different methods to Format Hard Drive in Windows 10

You can : Right click This PC>Manage>Disk Management.
You can : Click start menu and then type Disk Management to search.
You can : Click start menu and type cmd to open command prompt and type compmgmt.msc and click Enter.
You can also Press “windows + R” to open the command prompt and then enter “diskmgmt.msc” to launch Disk Management

When Disk Management is open, right click the partition you need to format then choose Format.

Formatting your drive will remove all data. Wipe it clean like a baby's bum.

Full formatting will erase the disk and re-write the tracks and sectors. But there's no need to do a full format. It takes too long, anyway. Just do a quick format. That simply erases the drives directory. It is effectively 'erased' because it and Windows no longer know what all those ones and zeros mean anymore.
