I am upgrading my motherboard/cpu/graphics card, etc from my current computer that is running windows 7. When I upgrade my computer...how can I get the new windows 10. Will I have to reload windows 7 first into the "new" machine. I have a "builders" copy OEM of windows 7. Any ideas would be appreciated.....

Solution
If you bought Win7 oem after buying your upgrades you'll be fine, do as above and update Win7 - it may take awhile before receiving Win10 update as Microsoft''s servers for Win7 are low priority now.

But if you're thinking of using an existing oem Win7 license currently activated before planning to upgrade will cause problems due to motherboard ID. Your old motherboard being replaced if this is so will require you to phone call, wont simply activate online.

Alright, the solution is very simple. I am assuming you want to do a fresh install of windows 10, however, if you simply want to upgrade your existing windows 7 to windows 10, you would use the same process.

If you want to do a clean install of windows 10 you will need to download the windows 10 installation media creation tool from microsoft. You will need a usb with at least 4gb of available storage (note: this usb will have to be dedicated to windows 10. Don't attempt to use a partitioned usb/portable hd because your files will be erased once the usb is created). Once you have downloaded the tool start it and it will guide you step-by-step to create the windows 10 installation. After the installation media is created, you simply need to boot into the usb drive when you start your computer. You will need to check your computer to see what button you press on the bios screen to show the available drives to boot from. You can also default the boot option to the usb in your bios settings, and then change them back to your hd later. Once booted into the windows 10 installation, just follow the steps and install windows. When it asks for a serial number, enter the one on the windows 7 sticker that should be somewhere on your pc. Once you're connected to the internet, windows will automatically register it with your computer, and windows 10 will be activated.

Here is the download for the media creation tool from the microsoft website:

Note that instead of doing a fresh install, you can also select to upgrade windows. Just press the "upgrade now" button on the link above.

If you need some additional help, take a look at this webpage:
How To Clean Install Windows 10

Also, if your replacing your motherboard you might run into the issue that your windows 7 license is registered to that specific computer/manufacturer. You won't be able to install a copy of windows on a new build with a license that came with the a computer that you purchased from a specific manufacturer. If you purchased the windows 7 copy separately, you wont have any issues upgrading.

Your windows 7 copy is oem and theoretically tied to your original motherboard.
You might need a new license, but MS seems to be lenient about activating home built motherboard changes.

If you can boot your new motherboard with your old windowd "C" drive, then install your new drivers and try to activate.
Likely you will need to tell ms via phone that you are using this copy of windows on only one pc.

If no joy in booting, then do a clean install of 7 trying to use your old activation code.

If you really want windows 10, buy a retail copy of pro.
It will cost a bit more.
Retail vs oem will give you future portability.
Pro vs, regular gives you options to control when windows updates can take place.

If the OEM copy is currently installed on your current PC, then you would need a new licence anyway, and best idea is get a Retail copy of 10 as it can be moved unlike an OEM copy.
If its just new, just use its licence key and use the Windows 10 download links already shown above to install it on new pc. Since the November update you can register win 10 using a Win 7 key.

If you want free upgrade you better hurry as its unclear what will happen after the 29th July.

Here's another "techno babble jargo" word for you:
Google it.

Acer is an OEM.
They buy OEM Windows Licenses (keys/serial/numbers)
They build computers.

You bought an OEM PC.
It has an OEM license.
OEM licenses are non-transferable to new systems.

You tried to transfer your OEM License to a new system, (i.e. computer) and Microsoft said no you can't do that.

https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-Home-System-Builder/dp/B00ZSI7Y3U
Windows 10 OEM is intended for pre-installation on a new PC and cannot be transferred to another computer once installed.

Doesn't say anything about it being non-transferable because you can use it as many times as you want.

Solution

Because you didn't do the proper research or provide the right info to the people you asked originally.
You're the one whose wrong.

Did you even try re-entering the key into the Windows 10 activation window?
Where did you even get your original key from?

Acer as in Acer aspire from currys in the high street

I especially like the bit where innocent multi billion dollar international mega corp is being ripped off by guilty customers.

Microsoft are not only lenient they are sympathetic too >_<

and operational documentation shouldn't be distributed with it either I s'pose.

What do you not get?
Acer = OEM.
OEM = Non Transferable.
