How will AMD respond to Nvidia's new G-Sync technology?

So we all know Nvidia are about to release their new technology called "G-Sync" which will completely destroy the annoying "Screen tearing",and no more mouse lag/slutter or anything... But how will AMD gonna respond to this? are they releasing something similiar to that? or any other way that will remove the tearing? and is it true that AMD will release a new driver,that will remove the tearing? anyone have any information?

I have read the article,but i didn't understand how does it works? do you have to buy something for that freesync>? or download something..???
