Hi. My mom recently purchased a hp laptop model number 14-dk1025wm (https://www8.hp.com/us/en/laptops/product-details/34443624) for $300. I haven't had time to mess with it at all, but she says it seems really slow for a brand new laptop and I seen a lot of the same complaints on Amazon reviews. I don't know anything about laptops or laptop parts. I kept forgetting to get online and ask for help as well. Today is her last day to return it. So here I am, asking if y'all know if this is the best it's going to get for $300 or if there is a better laptop that'd be more worth the money. Slightly more than 300 would be fine, but probably nothing more than like 350. Thanks.

TLDR: Can the ram be upgraded on a laptop and could the hdd be swapped for an ssd in the future?

Turns out she made a mistake and has until tomorrow (if she is right this time lol) to return it. She apparently didn't mess with it much as it started updating everything when I turned it on and took forever before cpu, memory and disk were done maxing out the whole time. No wonder she thought it felt extremely slow.

Think she prefers the space. However, I didn't even notice it only had 4 gb ram until you pointed that out. That concerns me a bit. Which leaves me with some questions...

Can ram be upgraded on basically any laptop these days? A quick google search seems to indicate that ram can be upgraded on laptops, but possibly only certain ones.

Also, can the hdd be upgraded to an ssd later on?

Oh, and one last question (sorry lol.) Am I correct that her current laptop (the 14 model) actually has the better processor and iGPU?

If that is the case, think the upgrade route would be best assuming it is possible.

If this isn't something you know off the top of your head, please don't waste time researching or anything, I can do that if necessary, just thought I might be able to get a quick yes or no. Thanks again.
