Ok, so my son aand I ordered 2, 1gb ddr pc2700 333mhz ram sticks for this computer. The new ram is not working with the computer and they look different that the ram that was working. Different looking in that the memory chips themselves are like two chips sandwiched on top of each other! Can someone tell me why?

The DDR modules you bought may be to different from the ones you previously had in one or more ways.

They could be beyond the maximum supported capacity of the motherboard or CPU.

They could be beyond the maximum supported frequency of the motherboard or CPU (probably not the problem).

They could have a different rank density then the previous modules. Refer to this part of the DDR SDRAM wikipedia page for information about this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_SDRAM#Chip_characteristics

The new modules could just be DOA, dead on arrival.

What processor is installed in that system and what memory modules did you buy? Were they ordered from a site that certifies them as compatible?
