These recent articles are nothing of a surprise to me. I said earlier that the iPad will suck but everyone will have to have one - guess I left out the part where everyone will copy Apple's weak hardware and jump of their bandwagon. However, I did say this would be the death-blow to real tablets - all we will have is smart phones that won't work as a phone. *sigh*

Myself, I'm on the linux bandwagon, but that would require HP picking a distro and hiring some competent developers to make it work - and at that point, I'm sure they'd rather just go smart-phone-esque and use android. At least they still make a convertable tablet pc... for now.

As for hypocrisy, it seems that some of the same people bad-mouthing a netbook for being weak and underpowered are praising the iPad. Perhaps you expect a netbook to perform like a laptop but an iPad to perform like a cell phone, but either way these two devices (netbooks and tablets) should be in the middle of those two.

All will be ok, It's still coming out with Android afaik, and that in itself is what I would prefer to both WinWhatever and Apple OSWhatever on a touchscreen.

... if there waz a way to put a full OS in to a slate, then apple would be making iPad's running SnowLeopard... so... HP realise that... and M$ haz not a slate version of Windows Mobile 7... you can not make a sub 400$ slate PC that run a good, but still power hungry Win7... so? Yeah! As expected!!!

[citation][nom]Parsifal57[/nom]Oh well, I WAS going to buy an HP Slate when it launched, but if this news proves to be true I guess I'm going to be looking a MSI/ASUS since there is no way I want Google to be tracking my every move.[/citation]
They (google) already have cameras on your street anyway. You have been assimilated just like the rest of us. Didn't you get the memo? What's good for google is good for us, google says so.

The only thing remotely interesting about this article is that HP didn't abandon Windows7/Atom it AFTER selling it for 8 months.

Whatever they do manage to kick out the door...

A year into selling the HP Slate, HP will do what it has consistently done with nearly all of their consumer products.... orphan it. It's classic HP product management.
