HP Laptop CPU fan broken...

Im wondering if it would cost a lot to send in the laptop to HP and get them to replace the CPU fan or if the CPU would be able to stay cool from a cooling pad alone?

It will definitely not stay cool with the cooling pad,therebis a reason why the have cooling systems
