As I was watching a flick, the computer just shut down. tried a restart and nothing. check & swapped out cable, nothing. I took all the wires out, held start button for 10 sec and plugged cable in and noticed green power light was on. pushed start button and for a slip sec the Fan ran, then power light went out. tried several times. nothing. unplugged cable and held power button down 10 sec, changed red voltage switch from 115 to 220 waited replaced red switch back t 115v and hooked power cable up. power button came on, hit start button and fan came on/off in split sec and green light off..
Help! I feel it's the power supply but not an expert. The power unit is: input 100-127, max output 220 watts,
Product # - BM413AA#ABA,
HP Part number - 504966-001,
Extra ? #DPS220AB-2A.Rev
Thanks for any help.

Almost guaranteed it's the PSU. Pretty much nothing else would cause your symptoms and the PSUs that come in those prebuilts are pretty cheap to start with, barely capable of meeting specifications. That's why they use them so they can cut the investment costs for hardware on them and make money on their budget units. I was actually looking for a flex atx unit anyhow for a client when I came across your thread.

Here is a link to a quality PSU replacement for your rig. Since it uses a Flex-ATX PSU that is not common for the majority of computers, it was a little hard to find a decent replacement. Most of the replacements available in this style are also cheap off brand units as used by the OEMs. This is made by Seasonic, arguably the...

Most of the replacements available in this style are also cheap off brand units as used by the OEMs. This is made by Seasonic, arguably the best PSU manufacturer there is. I would recommend this unit above all others and the price is not drastically more than most of the cheap ass units. Hope this is what you needed. Also, it's about 30w more than the OE unit was so that paired with the fact that this one will actually meet it's specs, it's a nice upgrade from factory.
