I am trying to to do a system recovery on an HP 4540. While doing the recovery I get a "file allocation error" and the recovery program quits. I've tried using a different hard drive with no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Dustin

I had the same problem with my hp 8560c, i had installed some generic memory and it crashed mine.. did you do anything to bring this on?? any way i did a format, a fdisk, and it still didnot fix it bought a new hd and before i installed it i took the hard drive to a local comp shop and the guy tested it and it was ok.. then he fdisk it and formated it. then i installed it and restored with oem disk and now it will boot but will not retain the cmos and setup settings. try to fdisk and delete partition and re format... strange you get the same problem with new hd???? really dazed and confused..
